He is also a founding member of the 16 piece Central Illinois Jazz Orchestra. Additionally, Carl has performed with the Temptations, the Harry James Orchestra, and the Lawrence Welk All-Stars. In addition to all types of Jazz, he regularly performs in many classical and orchestral groups. He is a member of the Prairie Wind Ensemble where he has served as trombonist, soloist, and guest conductor. Each summer Carl is also the principal trombonist for the Peoria Municipal Band. When not playing music you can find him underwater as an avid swimmer and scuba diver.

Craig Bullis - clarinet
Craig is a "charter member" of the band and has traveled with his clarinet and baritone saxaphone many highway miles from Keokuk, Iowa to play with the band and honestly looks forward to each performance with the band as much as the first. He is not crazy, he just know what he likes.

A retired educator for over 40 years, he lives with his wife Lee. Over the years he has performed and taught at many jazz festivals and was a member of the Fifth Army Band in Chicago and the Eighth Army Band in Seoul, Korea. Besides his work with the Carl Anderson Jazz Band he continues to manage and front an 18 piece big band that performs in the Keokuk area.

Jason Shea - bass
Mr. Jason S. Shea is currently teaching in his seventh year at Dunlap High School where he directs the bands, jazz bands, and orchestra.  He is a graduate of Dunlap High School and holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music.  In addition to playing with Carl Anderson and his New Orleans Jazz Band, Jason plays euphonium, tuba, bass trombone, and string bass in other local ensembles including the Prairie Wind Ensemble, Peoria Municipal Band, Illinois Central Jazz Train, Central Illinois Jazz Orchestra, and Pontifical Brass at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria, IL.  Past ensembles of note include IMEA district and all-state ensembles, the Central Illinois Youth Symphony, and the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps.  Recently, Jason recorded an electric bass instructional DVD for Sound Innovations, Alfred Music’s newest beginning band method.  When Jason is not teaching or performing, he spends his free time traveling, scuba diving, mountaineering, and motorcycling.

Lance Dieckow - banjo
Lance learned the banjo at age 9 and began gigging at the world-famous Shakey's Pizza Parlor at age 11. It was there that he met Denny Schielein, and the two have played together on and off ever since.
In the 1970s Lance became a regular at banjo rallies across the United States. He performed at the LaCrosse Wisconsin banjo show from 1970-1994. From 1980-1994 Lance gave banjo seminars and headlined shows across the United States. In 1994 he decided he'd rather stay home and fish than spend every weekend in a hotel! Lance met Carl Anderson after reuniting with Denny and landing a regular gig at the historic Hotel Pere Marquette in downtown Peoria. This trio of fellows has played together ever since.
Lance’s day job isn’t at all music-related; he’s worked for 24 years in the CEFCU information services department, where he is the assistant operations manager in the computer room. But you can’t take the music out of the musician, and Lance remains an integral part of Carl’s band. He also enjoys playing guitar whenever the opportunity arises.

Denny Schielein - piano, vocals
Denny has been playing piano professionally since 1968 when he first started gigging at Shakey's Pizza Parlor. Since then Denny has been playing his brand of stride piano with ballroom dance bands for more than 20 years. His own group, Fat Albert's Barrelhouse Band, performed regularly throughout Central Illinois for many years. Denny's first love is Dixieland jazz, honky-tonk, and ragtime. He has played political rallies, steamboat concerts, conventions, supper clubs, and taverns. Denny also has brings a captivatingly smooth singing style to the stage and to several of the tracks on our album.
Denny shares his musical motto: "Let Dixieland jazz swing on!”
